Empowering Smallholder Farmers in Cameroon: A Hands-On Approach
In rural Cameroon, agriculture is the lifeblood of communities, yet many smallholder farmers still rely on outdated tools and traditional methods. This can lead to low yields and exacerbate issues like food insecurity and malnutrition. Recognizing this challenge, the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) and the Ministry of Scientific Research and Innovation (MINRESI) have joined forces to introduce a transformative initiative: Farmer Field Days.
These hands-on learning events, locally known as Journées Scientifiques and Champs-Écoles Paysans (CEP), bring together farmers, researchers, and policymakers in a collaborative setting. The recent event in Bandjoun attracted over 10,000 farmers eager to learn about sustainable and productive farming techniques. By sharing knowledge and fostering innovation, IITA's Farmer Field Days aim to revolutionize smallholder agriculture in Cameroon.
